1. How did you arrive at running this SQL Marksman? What path brought you here?
I spend a lot of time online trying to figure things out and I thought I could also provide the same service. I try to write an article as I develop or fix an issue at work.
How did I get here, I stopped by Barnes and Noble and found a book- Problogger – this prompted me to start blogging and try to make a business out of my content and following. I currently have over 500 unique hits a week, not much but I hope that will grow. I am always surprised to see the amount of countries that read my articles.
2. What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?
I am very good at SQL – I can program directly in notepad with few errors – my colleagues are always impressed with this. I was an SQL programmer full time for a while and I got very good at it. I have a knack for AI Mathematics – I can dive into this stuff.
3. What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients? What do your ideal clients say about you?
Data issues – Finding missing money or working through a data problem. My clients say about me – “if it’s too hard, just give it to Lawrence”

I have been around –
I worked for the US Navy as an Operation Specialist – BUDS class 229 – IFF systems & other cool stuff
I worked for University of Miami – worked on their security systems and custom analytics for HR
I worked for Ultimate Software – Helped them performance tune a process (payroll) that was taking over 24 hours to complete – got it down to 2 minutes –Client thought it was broken the first time it ran so fast – CIO thanked me personally for this.
I worked for Kellstrom Aerospace – Performance tuning and Sales Data warehouse (ETL, Data Model, SQL) – also helped them migrate of that old AS400.
I worked for Grassroots – Full time SQL programmer and ETL developer – Cisco Redbadge holder and inactive Top Secret Military Clearance
I worked for Prefered Care Partners – EDI specialist, developed HL7 transfer of claims records for MEDCO.
I work for The Trizetto Group – Managing release operations for Blue Cross Blue Shield clients – Also work on predictive analysis of Medical data.

7. Where can we find you when you’re not working? What’s your favorite way to spend a weekend or a Sunday afternoon?
At the UM school of business, they have quiet work spaces and I can focus there. I also spend time at the movies or with family throwing the football around.
8. How long have you been doing what you do?
Funny, I did not know much about computers until I got out of the military but since then I have taken a plunge and have loved it. I have been doing this for over 10 years.
9. Where did you grow up and why aren’t you there now?
I am where I grew up, in Miami FL – Now I live on the beach, we like the water
